Center
for Community Solutions is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation
that has provided prevention and intervention services for
sexual assault and relationship violence survivors since 1969.
Mission:
The mission of Center for Community
Solutions (CCS) is two-fold: to create communities free from
violence by building bridges between people; and to foster
a safe and healthy environment for women, children and men
through education, therapeutic services, advocacy as well
as cultural and community services.
Vision: The
vision of Center for Community Solutions is for all people
to live full, free, expressive and empowered lives in a safe,
vibrant, healthy and peaceful community.
Programs:
Each year, CCS assists more than 15,000 San Diegans affected
by sexual assault and domestic violence.
CCS’ services are divided among five program areas:
¨
The city of San Diego’s only Rape Crisis Center that provides
services for survivors of sexual assault, along with a 24-hour
bilingual crisis Helpline as well as hospital and court accompaniment
services for rape survivors;
¨
A Clinical Department specializing in counseling and
therapy services that address the emotional aspects of relationship
violence and sexual assault for victims and their families;
¨
A Legal Clinic assisting individuals with filing temporary
restraining orders and other family law matters;
¨
A Prevention and Education Department that uses education
as a tool for violence prevention and change for professional
audiences, youth groups and the general public; and
¨
A Residential Services Department, which includes two 24-hour
emergency shelters and two transitional housing complexes
for victims of domestic violence and their children.
Some
of the Center’s most innovative programs include:
¨
Pacific
Beach Teen and Leadership Center, a collaborative after-school
prevention program;
¨
Award-winning
“Ahimsa Project for Safe Families,” which engages communities
in generating their own solutions to preventing violence.
Ahimsa specifically works with Somali, Laotian and Latino communities in the mid-city area of San Diego;
¨
DVRT
(Domestic Violence Response Team), a program that provides
first-response services to victims of domestic violence and
their children in Escondido, East County and Northeast San
Diego; and
¨
Crossroads,
a 52-week, Probation-approved Domestic Violence Intervention
Program for men and women who have committed acts of domestic
violence.
